Il Sassone a Roma – Wie (k)ein Erdbeben und der Papst Händel zum Star machten
In this concert, children will experience the exciting story of Georg Friedrich Handel, one of the greatest composers of all time, when he was young and wanted to study in Italy. Handel, who was called “Il Sassone” in Italy, captivated the people there with his music – even though there were some very special events that influenced his rise to fame.
But what did a great earthquake and the Pope have to do with his career? Children will discover this on an exciting journey through Handel’s music!
Dixit Dominus, a work that the young Handel composed during his time in Italy, will be performed in a special children’s version. Moderated by conductor Stephan Lutermann, the work will come alive for the young audience. The orchestra “L’harpa festante,” the internationally acclaimed soprano Dorothee Mields, and the festival choir will bring Handel’s music to life, showing how the young composer delighted the people of Italy.
And anyone who can correctly translate the Italian title of the concert upon entry will receive a little surprise!
