Vivat Palestrina – 500 Jahre Giovanni Luigi da Palestrina

Stile Antico

Stile Antico

… is firmly established as one of the most successful and innovative vocal ensembles in the world. The name was and is the programme, as vocal music composed in the “old style” of the English, Flemish and Spanish Renaissance and early Baroque is the core of their work.
The twelve members have thrilled audiences on four continents with their fresh, vibrant and moving performances. They captivate their audiences with their vitality and palpable enthusiasm for their music. Stile Antico’s performances are often praised for their immediacy, expressiveness and sensitive and imaginative response to the lyrics.
Their recordings on the Harmonia Mundi label have been honoured with the Gramophone Classical Music Award for Early Music, the Diapason d’Or and the German Record Critics’ Award, among others. In 2019, the group released two further recordings for Harmonia Mundi: “In a Strange Land” and “A Spanish Nativity”. Stile Antico received three Grammy nominations and performed live at the 60th Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden in 2018.

Stile Antico released its first recording for Decca Classics to mark the 500th anniversary of Josquin’s death. The next recording followed in 2023 to mark the 400th anniversary of William Byrd’s death. The latest release in Stile Antico’s “Golden Renaissance” trilogy on the Decca Classics label commemorates the 500th anniversary of the birth of arguably the most important composer of the Italian Renaissance, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The album is based on Palestrina’s famous Missa Papae Marcelli, the mass setting that is said to have saved church music from being banned by the Catholic Church.
