One of the defining figures of the early music movement, Barthold Kuijken has had a profound influence on the rediscovery of the Baroque transverse flute. Together with Jean Christophe Dijoux, he presents masterpieces by Handel, Leclair, Locatelli and Johann Sebastian Bach, works whose elegance and richness of expression continue to captivate audiences today.

At the heart of the programme are Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita in A minor, BWV 1013, for solo flute and the Sonata in B minor, BWV 1030. In this remarkable sonata, the transverse flute and harpsichord meet as equal partners, engaging in a musical dialogue of extraordinary refinement, subtlety and depth.

To this day, Barthold Kuijken’s playing is admired for its naturalness, seemingly effortless virtuosity and unmistakable tone, drawing listeners in from the very first note.
